Description
Dwarf 45 is an early-maturing sorghum broom variety that matures in 100-105 days. Plants are low-growing, reaching 155-180 cm in height, and slightly bushy. The stem is strong and resistant to lodging, with 10-11 above-ground nodes, ensuring reliable and stable growth. Leaves are lanceolate, 60-65 cm long and 7-8 cm wide, with a characteristic white midrib. Grain is light brown, elongated-oval, membranous, and easily threshed, facilitating processing and use.
The panicle is straw-like, loose, cylindrical, and elastic, measuring 40-42 cm in length, and becomes upright at maturity. The panicle stalk is 15-20 cm long and 1.0-1.2 cm thick. Panicle branches are moderately thin, 1.0-1.5 mm in diameter, and flexible, making them suitable for broom and brush manufacturing. Due to these characteristics, Dwarf 45 is ideal for producing brooms and brushes.
The variety exhibits high resistance to diseases and pests during seed germination, as well as cold and drought tolerance. It is resistant to lodging and shattering, which helps preserve yield. Yield is 7.0-8.0 tons of panicles per stem and 2.5-3.8 tons of grain per hectare. Dwarf 45 has been registered in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 1999 and is widely used in agriculture for specialized cultivation of broom sorghum.
