FLAGG

The hybrid grain sorghum Flagg is a medium-early variety recommended for grain production and included in the State Register for the North Caucasus region. The plant is characterized by low stature and early panicle emergence. The panicle is long and of medium density, with a broad lower part and long neck. The glumes at maturity are of medium length and acquire a reddish-brown hue. The grain is narrowly elliptical, orange in color with a starchy endosperm, with a 1000-grain weight of approximately 30.4 g, exceeding the average standard for grain weight. The Flagg hybrid demonstrates high productivity from both main and lateral stems. The grain mass from the main and lateral panicles reaches 45.1 g and 39.0 g respectively, significantly higher than other hybrids such as Svat. High productivity is due to greater 1000-grain weight, which exceeds competitors' indicators by 35-40%, despite having fewer grains per panicle. The biological grain yield from both stem systems reaches 5.87 t/ha, significantly higher than the early-maturing hybrid Svat (4.75 t/ha). Studies conducted between 2019–2021 demonstrated the effectiveness of applying the innovative growth stimulant Vegestim when cultivating the Flagg hybrid. The use of the stimulant enhances yield and improves growth parameters, confirming its suitability in the agronomic technology for growing this grain sorghum hybrid.
