Mohawk

The hybrid sorghum Mohawk is a late-maturing variety, certified by OECD and developed in the USA. The plant reaches a height of 300 to 400 cm, has a strong stem and a moderate tillering coefficient from 4 to a maximum of 5-6. The vegetation period is 120 to 130 days, and the time from germination to panicle emergence is about 80-85 days. The seeds have a fraction of 3.5-4.5 mm and are treated with the fungicide Maxim XL, antidote Concept III, and the product Cruiser 350 FS, providing protection against diseases and enhancing plant resistance. Sorghum Mohawk is suitable for a wide range of applications, including the production of high-quality silage, green mass, grazing, biogas, bioethanol, and sorghum syrup. The high sugar content in the juice (20-25%) and protein (11.5%) make this hybrid especially valuable for animal feed and biofuel. The recommended row spacing is 45-70 cm, and the sowing rate is 160 to 250 thousand seeds per hectare. The potential yield reaches 900-1400 ц/ha, with an average yield in Ukraine of 800-900 ц/ha. Morphological and technological characteristics of the variety include large, wide, dark green leaves and a small, dense panicle. The stem is juicy and resistant to lodging, contributing to high adaptability and disease resistance. Sorghum Mohawk has a high yield of green mass — 1000 to 1200 ц/ha — making it promising for use in livestock and bioenergy. For high-quality silage, it is recommended to intercrop with corn in a 1:1 ratio, which increases feed nutritional value and energy efficiency.
