Description
The grain sorghum variety 'Ozinsky' is an early-maturing culture with a vegetation period of 85 to 94 days. The plants are of medium height, reaching 125-138 cm, and possess high cold and drought resistance, ensuring stable development even in unfavorable climatic conditions. The green leaf color with sparsely pubescent laminae and veins, as well as an erect, symmetrical white panicle about 31 cm long, characterize the variety's appearance. The grain is round, white, free of glumes, does not shatter, and threshes easily, facilitating harvest and subsequent crop processing. The variety 'Ozinsky' is distinguished by high yield: the grain yields from 3.85 to 5.17 tons/ha, which significantly exceeds the performance of the standard 'Perspektivny 1'. Green mass yield is also high, ranging from 14.63 to 18.36 tons/ha. The mass of 1000 seeds varies within 26.9-36 g, averaging about 32.3 g. The grain contains 10-13% protein and 72-74% starch, making it a valuable feed component for agricultural animals, birds, and fish. It is recommended to include sorghum grain in the diet in quantities ranging from 25% to 40%, depending on the type of animals and fattening period. For successful cultivation of the 'Ozinsky' variety, sowing in the second decade of May using a wide-row method with a row spacing of 35-70 cm and a sowing rate of 0.140-0.500 million viable seeds per hectare is recommended. Seed burial depth is 5-7 cm. The variety is resistant to lodging after standing in the field for up to 20-25 days and also possesses high resistance to head smut diseases and damage from cereal aphids. On weedy plots, it is advisable to apply herbicides such as Prometrin or Gesagard in recommended doses, which enhances cultivation technology and preserves the crop.
