Description
The sorghum variety Saratovskoe 90 was developed in the selection and seed production laboratory of feed crops at NIISKh South-East by individual selection methods with the use of in-cultivation from an F1 hybrid. Plants of this variety reach an average height from 182 to 223 cm and have 6-8 leaves. The panicle is loose, 37-42 cm in length, colored in shades from light purple to dark purple, leaves are linear, green, 48-62 cm long. Seeds are elliptical, brown, naked, easily threshed, with a powdery endosperm consistency. Ears are round with a triangular tip, the color of the ear bracts varies from light to dark purple.
The variety is characterized by accelerated initial growth rates and sufficient drought tolerance, making it suitable for cultivation in various cultivation zones. Saratovskoe 90 is high-yielding, with a large proportion of grain-type grain without hulls. However, prolonged standing of plants tends to cause lodging. The main advantage of the variety is the high yield of fodder mass and grain, which allows for the preparation of high-quality silage with good nutritional properties.
The economic efficiency of cultivating the Saratovskoe 90 variety is due to its high productivity and quality of silage mass. Stable fodder mass yield makes this variety competitive and in demand among feed crops, providing a reliable raw material for animal husbandry.
