Description
SLAVYANSKOYE POLE 520 is a mid-maturing variety of sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), characterized by high yield and adaptability to the conditions of the Rostov region and the North Caucasus region. The plant is tall, with 16-17 green leaves on the main stem, which have matte veins and are not hairy. The heading time is average; the panicle is erect, symmetrical, of medium length and density, with grape-like spikelets and chestnut-colored glume scales. The awn of the lower floral glume is absent or very poorly developed. The grain is elliptical, brown in color, with a 100-grain mass ranging from 21.8 to 24.5 grams.
The variety's yield is characterized by high productivity: average dry matter yield reaches 62.2 centners per hectare, exceeding the average standard by 6.9 centners, while seed yield is approximately 11.1 centners per hectare. The variety exhibits high resistance to lodging and drought resistance at the level of standards, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in conditions of a variable climate. Under field conditions, the variety shows a moderate level of infection with bacterial leaf spot.
The variety was developed by JSC "All-Russian Research Institute of Sorghum and Soybeans 'Slavyanskoye Pole'" and recommended for cultivation in the regions of the North Caucasus and Lower Volga Federal Districts. Thanks to its agronomic characteristics and adaptability, SLAVYANSKOYE POLE 520 is a promising option for obtaining stable yields of sweet sorghum.
