The «Giraffe» (Zhyraf) sorghum variety is a specialized development by the Selection and Genetics Institute (National Center for Seed Science and Cultivar Research) in Ukraine. It is tailored for agricultural enterprises operating in high-risk zones where soil moisture is often a limiting factor. Unlike many early-maturing hybrids that may trade yield for speed, «Giraffe» focuses on structural integrity, exhibiting exceptional resistance to lodging and grain shedding, which is crucial for efficient mechanical harvesting in steppe regions.

With a growing season of 120–130 days, this variety is classified as mid-season. This duration allows the plant to leverage early-to-mid summer moisture effectively, avoiding the most intense heat stress periods during the panicle formation stage. Growing to a height of 130–150 cm, the variety features a robust, thick stalk, significantly reducing losses from wind damage.

Key advantages and strategic use
