The plant has gray pubescence, oval-shaped side leaflets of medium-sized green color, and white flowers. Pods are light brown, seeds are elongated, yellow with a brown hilum. The mass of 1000 seeds varies within the range of 160.9-187.9 g. The height of attachment of the lower pod is 11.3-13.0 cm, and the plant form is semi-closed. DON 21 is not prone to lodging and shattering, which contributes to crop preservation.
The variety is characterized by high yield, which in various regions reaches from 10.5 to 41.3 c/ha, while the average yield is 13.9-18.4 c/ha. Maximum yield indicators were recorded in various test enterprises, including 33.3 c/ha in North Ossetia and 41.3 c/ha in the Far East. DON 21 differs in high protein content in seeds - from 38.4% to 45.2%, as well as high fat content - 21.4-23.4%. Average protein and oil yield is 2.4-5.4 c/ha and 2.7-3.3 c/ha, respectively.
The variety shows resistance to bacterial speckle and has weak damage by the codling moth, which increases its reliability in terms of agrotechnology. DON 21 is recommended for cultivation in various regions of Russia, including the Central, Central-Black Soil, North-Caucasian, Lower Volga, and Far Eastern. Due to its high technological and biological characteristics, this variety is promising for the production of high-quality soy raw materials with high protein and oil content.
