Description
Medea soybean variety is an early-maturing, high-yielding variety developed by the Steppe Agricultural Institute of NAAN of Ukraine. The vegetation period lasts 85-110 days, allowing full maturity to be reached in the third decade of August. Due to this, the variety is considered a good predecessor for winter crops. Medea is characterized by high plasticity and adaptability to various growing conditions, including steppe, forest-steppe, and Polissia.
Plants of the Medea variety have compact bushes with a height of 80 to 120 cm. Stems and pods are covered with dense pubescence, the color of which ranges from white to reddish. Leaves are broadly oval, and flowers are light purple. Seeds are large, light-yellow with a brown hilum, oval or rounded-convex in shape. Pods are light sandy, usually contain 2-3 seeds, and are well-beaned. The thousand-seed mass ranges from 160 to 220 grams.
The Medea variety exhibits high resistance to bacterial blight, fusarium, viral diseases, drought, and lodging. Yield reaches 2.8-3.5 tons per hectare (18-35 c/ha). Seeds contain 38-40% crude protein and 23-24% fat, making them valuable for both food and feed purposes, as well as for planting material. Seeds are supplied in 40 kg polyethylene bags, untreated.
