Description
The YAKTASH Sudan grass variety represents a mid-season type of Sorghum xdrummondii, characterized by drought resistance and high dry matter yield. Its performance varies across regions: in the Middle Volga region, average yield is about 50 c/ha, while in the West Siberia region, it reaches approximately 40 c/ha. Seed mass ranges from 10.1 to 17 g per thousand seeds, indicating high density and grain quality.
The plant's fascicle features an upright bush with moderate to strong bushiness depending on growing conditions. Stem height reaches 124–153 cm, while leaves are lanceolate in shape, 40–60 cm long and 2–3.5 cm wide. The panicle grows loose and spreading, typically within 20–35 cm. Seedling coloration is anthocyanin, though intensity may be moderate or weak.
YAKTASH seeds have an elliptical shape, brown in hue with possible light-yellow to light-brown coloring. Upon ripening, spikelet hulls turn brown-black, while seeds become oval-round and membranous. The variety is resistant to lodging and drought, and is moderately affected by reddish-brown speckle at standard levels. Thanks to these characteristics, the YAKTASH variety is suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions, including the Volga-Vyatsk region, where it has already proven itself as a reliable source of yield.
