Description
The SUOMI HTS sunflower is an early-maturing linoleic hybrid developed by Syngenta breeders. It belongs to the moderately intensive adaptation type and is characterized by high initial growth energy, promoting rapid formation of mature plants. The hybrid exhibits stable high yields independent of sowing dates and is adaptable to various growing conditions. Plant height is medium, and resistance to lodging allows successful cultivation even on infested fields. Seeds contain up to 52% oil content, making this sunflower profitable for oil production.
SUOMI HTS shows high tolerance to seven major strains of downy mildew (A–G), as well as some new forms of this pathogen. The hybrid is optimized for use with FMC’s Express® herbicide, ensuring effective weed control. Additionally, the sunflower is resistant to major diseases such as phomopsis, false powdery mildew, gray mold, and sclerotinia in various forms, contributing to plant health and yield stability.
Recommended growing zones include the Polissya region, forest-steppe and steppe areas with sufficient moisture, particularly northern parts of the steppe. Sowing rate depends on soil moisture level: 45–55 thousand plants per hectare under moderate moisture, and 50–58 thousand plants per hectare under sufficient moisture. The hybrid suits moderately intensive cultivation technologies and ensures stable high yields ranging from 27.7 to 42.5 c/ha, confirmed by results from 2020.
