Argenta – perennial frost-hardy timothy variety, growing as a loose-culm plant with a height of about 120 cm. A classic cylindrical inflorescence forms from a dense panicle, making the culture a valuable fodder material.
The fodder properties of Argenta are high: after mowing and grazing, the plant recovers quickly, allowing for 2–3 cuts per season and use for grazing up to 4–5 cycles. The seed sowing rate is 10–12 kg/ha (in some sources – 15–20 kg/ha), with growth starting at 5 °C, and seed germination possible at 2 °C.
Hay yield reaches 100 ц/ha, and 100 kg of hay contains about 45 fodder units and 4–5 kg of protein. In green mass – 22 fodder units per 100 kg. Seed productivity is 5–6 ц/ha. Protein content in hay is at least 10%, rich in essential amino acids such as lysine and arginine, which increases its nutritional value for livestock.
