Field Experience with Ramses Spring Triticale

When selecting a spring triticale variety, agronomic stability in volatile spring weather is our primary concern. The Ramses variety, developed by the FSBSI FRANC, has proven itself as a reliable tool in the field—one that forgives minor sowing errors and responds consistently to standard crop management practices.

Observations from the Field

During the growing season, Ramses displays excellent tillering capacity. It is a medium-height variety, which is crucial for lodging resistance; even after heavy summer rains, the crops remain upright, making harvesting significantly easier. The stem is resilient, and the straw is robust, so we have faced no issues with breakage during maturation.

• Adaptability: The variety handles temperature fluctuations during the spring-summer period exceptionally well. It starts vigorously, quickly closing the canopy, which naturally suppresses weed growth.
• Yield quality: Ramses consistently produces high-quality, plump grain with excellent test weight indicators.

Care and Harvesting Tips

The agronomic protocol for Ramses is straightforward. The variety responds well to nitrogen fertilizers, though excessive organic application should be managed to avoid overly lush foliage at the expense of grain development. During harvest, direct combining is straightforward: the variety threshes clean with minimal losses when the header is properly adjusted. Crucially, the grain is not prone to pre-harvest sprouting, providing a "safety buffer" of about a week if weather conditions deteriorate during the peak of the harvest.
