Description
The winter triticale variety ZUBR was developed by the Federal State Budgetary Institution 'South-East Agricultural Research Institute' and included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation since 2019. This variety was created by individual selection from the cross-variety hybrid F7 Strilets/Student and belongs to the Eritrospermum group. The plant is characterized by a height of about 128 cm, a spike length of 10.3 cm, and a 1000-grain weight ranging from 46 to 52 grams. The grain has an elongated shape, is large, and contains about 13.3% protein. The spike is white, awned, cylindrical in shape with uniform density along its entire length, and the spike surface is not hairy. Botanical features of the variety include a two-manus type of development, medium anthocyanin coloration of the coleoptile, and a strong waxy coating on the spike and sheath of the flag leaf. The plant has a long leaf blade of medium width, medium flowering time, and medium or weak occurrence of plants with a drooping flag leaf. The stem differs in strong density of pubescence of the neck, while the internode on the cut is hollow or weakly filled. The spike is fully awned with long axes above the tip, which contributes to its stability and productivity. Variety ZUBR is intended for grain-feed use, making it in demand for feeding livestock and poultry. It is distinguished by high drought resistance, earliness, and high grain productivity potential. Under conditions of the Lower Volga region, average grain yield reaches 30.1 c/ha, which significantly exceeds the indicators of standard varieties. Economic efficiency of the variety is ensured by stable production of quality grain, making it competitive and attractive for agricultural production.
