Description
Pea vegetable variety «Viola» is a mid-season crop developed at the All-Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production. The plant has a regular shape, with a green, non-hairy stem of medium height from 70 to 80 cm, which does not branch. Leaves are dark green, egg-shaped, entire-edged, with well-developed tendrils. Flowers are white, medium-sized, located two per peduncle, forming axillary racemes. Fruits — shelling pods of dark green color, straight and blunt-pointed, 6.5 to 8 cm long and about 1.4-1.5 cm wide, containing 6 to 9 grains of light and blue-green color with a wrinkled surface.
The variety «Viola» is intended for canning and is characterized by a period from germination to technical ripeness of about 67 days. Yield is approximately 9.5 tons of pods and 5.3 tons of green peas per hectare, which corresponds to 1.0 kg of pods and 0.5 kg of green peas per square meter. The taste of the peas is good both fresh and canned. The plant has medium foliation, with 7 to 12 pods formed on it, which ensures a stable and quality yield.
The variety is distinguished by relative resistance to ascochitis, which increases its reliability when grown in various climatic conditions. «Viola» is recommended for cultivation in the Northwestern, Central, Volga-Vyatka, Central Black Earth, Middle Volga, and Ural regions. Due to its characteristics and adaptability, this variety is a good choice for vegetable growers oriented towards obtaining high-quality green peas for fresh consumption and canning.
