Chișinău

The 'Chișinău' hazelnut variety was developed in Moldova and is widely cultivated in Ukraine due to its high yield and resistance to adverse conditions. This medium-sized, self-fertile tree has a rounded canopy, reaching up to 10 meters in height and 4 meters in diameter. Fruit production begins on the 5th-7th year after planting, with maximum yields of approximately 2–2.5 tons per hectare or 10–12 kg per tree in productive years. The variety is characterized by high cold and drought resistance, as well as resistance to diseases such as marsone and bacterial spot. The 'Chișinău' hazelnuts have light-brown, medium-thickness shells that easily separate from the kernel without damaging it. The average nut weight is 10–12 grams, with a kernel extraction rate of up to 50%. The kernel is golden with yellow spots, oily and flavorful, containing up to 66% fat, which gives it excellent taste qualities. Due to the ease of kernel removal, this variety is convenient for processing and consumption. The tree exhibits rapid growth and low maintenance requirements, making it suitable for both personal cultivation and industrial production. Leaves are elongated-oval, dark green, and bark is grayish. The variety is well-adapted to various climatic conditions, allowing cultivation across all of Ukraine. High winter hardiness and drought resistance ensure stable fruiting even under adverse weather conditions.
