Description
Pecan variety Pridnestrovsky is a tall tree reaching 10 to 12 meters in height with a medium-density, rounded crown. This mid-season variety was developed in 1988 in Pridnestrovie and is distinguished by high cold resistance and drought tolerance, as well as resilience to sharp temperature fluctuations. The tree prefers sunny locations sheltered from cold northern winds; for optimal growth, it should be planted 4–5 meters apart from other plants, as pecans do not tolerate crowding.
The fruits of the Pridnestrovsky pecan have a round shape with slight ridges and weigh 10–13 grams. The shell is brown, thin but sufficiently dense and strong, with very thin or practically nonexistent inner partitions, facilitating kernel extraction. The kernel is large, with a classic flavor and high fat content of about 70.8%. Harvest maturity occurs in the second decade of September, and fruiting begins as early as 4–5 years after planting.
The variety is characterized by stable and high yield — approximately 45 kg of nuts can be harvested from a single mature tree per season. Fruits form not only on terminal buds but also on lateral buds, promoting abundant fruiting. Due to its characteristics, Pridnestrovsky pecan is an excellent choice for cultivation under various climatic conditions, ensuring high-quality and flavorful harvests.
