Description
Systematic position. Acaudaleyrodes is a genus of insects belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Aleyrodidae. These small insects are closely related to other whitefly species, requiring precise identification of puparial structures to distinguish them from more common agricultural pests within the same family.
Host plants. This pest exhibits polyphagous behavior, colonizing a wide variety of plant species. It is frequently observed on vegetable crops, citrus trees, pomegranates, and numerous ornamental plants. Their presence is usually localized on the underside of leaves, where they establish colonies for feeding and reproduction.
Biology and life cycle. The life cycle of Acaudaleyrodes follows a typical hemipteran development pattern, progressing through egg, larval (nymphal), pupal, and adult stages. Favorable climatic conditions, particularly high temperatures, significantly accelerate the development speed, allowing multiple generations to occur during a single growing season and leading to rapid population growth.
Nature of damage and pest impact. Damage is caused by both nymphs and adults feeding on plant phloem sap. This feeding activity results in leaf yellowing, stunting, and general decline of the host plant. Additionally, the insects secrete honeydew, which serves as a substrate for sooty mold growth, severely interfering with photosynthesis and reducing the overall market quality of the produce.
