Acharia apicalis belongs to the Limacodidae family, commonly known as slug moths within the order Lepidoptera. The insect is named after the slug-like appearance of its larvae, which lack visible legs and move with a gliding motion. Adult moths are typically small, nocturnal, and exhibit camouflaged coloration that blends with tree bark.

This pest shows a strong preference for various woody plants and shrubs. Acharia apicalis frequently targets fruit-bearing crops, particularly those within the Rosaceae family, as well as various broad-leaved forest trees. Heavy infestations can cause significant foliage loss and reduce the overall physiological vigor of the affected plants.

The life cycle encompasses four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Development is highly dependent on environmental temperature and host plant availability. During the pupation phase, larvae construct hard, shell-like cocoons attached to twigs or leaves, which provide robust protection against predators and extreme weather conditions.

The primary damage is caused by the larvae, which feed on the leaf tissues. They skeletonize the leaves by consuming the parenchyma while leaving the veins intact. In cases of high population density, this feeding behavior leads to significant defoliation, which impairs the plant's ability to produce energy, ultimately impacting fruit yield and plant health.
