Acharia nesea is a member of the Limacodidae family, commonly known as slug moths. These insects are classified within the order Lepidoptera. The larvae are particularly notable for their slug-like appearance, possessing a smooth, flattened body that lacks distinct prolegs, allowing them to glide across leaf surfaces while feeding.

The pest primarily targets various broad-leaved trees and shrubs. Its host range includes both ornamental species and fruit-bearing plants found within its native distribution range. Damage typically occurs during the warmer months when the larvae are actively feeding on the foliage, significantly affecting the overall health of the affected plant.

The biological cycle of Acharia nesea follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Females deposit eggs on the undersides of leaves.
