The rose tortrix (Acleris bergmanniana) is a moth belonging to the family Tortricidae, order Lepidoptera. This species is widely recognized as a major pest of various rose species (genus Rosa), where it can cause significant damage to both wild and cultivated varieties in garden settings.

The life cycle of the rose tortrix consists of egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa, and adult stages. The insect overwinters in the egg stage, with eggs deposited on the bark of shoots near the buds. Larvae emerge in spring, coinciding with the bud-burst stage of the host plant, and immediately begin feeding on tender new growth.

The larvae are known for their habit of tying leaves together with silk webbing to create protective shelters, often rolling leaves into tubes or clusters. Within these protective structures, the larvae feed safely, causing chlorosis, leaf loss, and significant structural damage to the plant's terminal growth.

Economic and aesthetic damage is characterized by the destruction of leaf tissue and flower buds. Severe infestations lead to stunted growth and a dramatic reduction in the ornamental value of roses.
