Acleris holmiana, commonly known as the white-marked leafroller, is a moth species belonging to the family Tortricidae. This insect is classified as an agricultural pest due to its tendency to infest various fruit-bearing trees, potentially causing significant damage to orchard productivity and tree health.

The primary host plants for this species are members of the Rosaceae family. The pest frequently targets apple, pear, plum, cherry, hawthorn, and rowan trees. It feeds on the foliage, and in some cases, the presence of the larvae can interfere with the normal development of floral buds and young fruit clusters.

The biological development of this moth involves a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The overwintering phase typically occurs at the egg stage, attached to the bark of the host plant. Upon warming in the spring, larvae emerge and begin feeding on the developing buds and expanding leaves.

The damage caused by Acleris holmiana is identified by the larvae binding leaves together with silk, forming protective nests or rolls. Within these structures, the larvae consume leaf tissue, often resulting in skeletonization. Heavy infestations significantly reduce the photosynthetic capacity of the tree, leading to stunted growth and reduced yields.

Controlling this pest requires an integrated management approach (IPM). Cultural practices include the manual removal of infested leaf rolls and maintaining orchard hygiene.
