Acletoxenus is a genus of insects belonging to the order Diptera and the family Drosophilidae. Known primarily as small flies, some species within this genus have developed specialized larval behaviors. While often associated with the presence of whiteflies, they are considered an important factor in greenhouse ecosystem management.

These pests primarily affect vegetable and ornamental crops grown in indoor environments. Their occurrence is often linked to the presence of other common greenhouse pests, particularly whiteflies, which provide the necessary conditions for Acletoxenus larvae to develop. Damage is more pronounced in densely planted greenhouses with high humidity levels.

The life cycle of Acletoxenus follows a complete metamorphosis consisting of egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. Females lay eggs near the colonies of their host insects. The developmental rate is highly temperature-dependent, with optimal conditions between 22°C and 26°C, which are typical for commercial greenhouses throughout the growing season.

Damage to plants is primarily caused by the contamination of leaf surfaces with larval waste and puparia, which can inhibit photosynthesis and general plant vigor. Furthermore, the presence of these insects can facilitate the growth of secondary pathogens, such as sooty mold, which degrades the aesthetic and market value of the produce.
