The Eastern fruit fly (Chymomyza amoena) is a small dipteran insect belonging to the Drosophilidae family, order Diptera. Native to North America, this species has become an invasive concern in various regions globally, impacting agricultural fruit production by infesting vulnerable fruit crops.

This pest targets a wide variety of fruit-bearing plants, primarily focusing on pome and stone fruits such as apples, cherries, plums, and pears. Additionally, it has been observed attacking vineyards. The fly is particularly attracted to overripe fruit or fruits that have been mechanically damaged or infested by other pests, which provide easy access for egg-laying.
