This pest is a significant threat to commercial tea plantations, where its larvae feed on tender leaves and buds, leading to substantial economic losses in both yield and quality of the final product.

This species is highly polyphagous, meaning it can infest a wide range of host plants beyond tea, such as citrus and various ornamental shrubs.
