The tea tortrix moth (Adoxophyes honmai) is a destructive member of the family Tortricidae, order Lepidoptera. It is recognized as a primary pest in major tea-producing regions, although its host range extends to a variety of other economic crops, including fruit trees and ornamental species, making it a significant challenge for global agriculture.

The biology of this species is characterized by high reproductive rates and overlapping generations during the growing season. The insect undergoes a complete metamorphosis involving four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Their ability to adapt to varying climate conditions allows them to maintain stable populations throughout the year in many regions.

Larvae are the primary cause of damage, as they feed voraciously on fresh foliage. Upon hatching, the larvae use silk threads to roll or web leaves together, creating a protected microenvironment where they feed undisturbed. This behavior not only shields them from environmental stressors but also limits the effectiveness of direct contact insecticide applications.

Damage to the host plants is typically manifested as leaf skeletonization, severe rolling, and stunted development of terminal buds. For tea cultivation, this results in significant quantitative and qualitative losses, as the damaged leaves are unsuitable for processing. Heavy infestations can lead to total crop failure if left unmanaged during peak development periods.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is essential for controlling Adoxophyes honmai. Key strategies include:
