It is a significant forest pest that primarily targets oak species, causing severe damage to the vascular system of trees and often leading to their eventual mortality if left unmanaged.

Host plants: The primary host plants for Agrilus arcuatus are various species of the genus Quercus (oaks). The beetle prefers young trees and stands, where the larvae feed on the cambium and phloem beneath the bark, disrupting the nutrient transport within the tree structure.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle is typically completed within one year. The larvae overwinter in chambers excavated in the wood or under the bark. Pupation occurs in the spring, and adult beetles emerge in late spring or early summer. After emergence, adults engage in maturation feeding on oak leaves before mating and ovipositing on the bark.

Larvae bore winding, irregular galleries under the bark, which effectively girdle the tree and interrupt the flow of water and nutrients.
