Systematic position: Agriotes mancus belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Elateridae, commonly known as click beetles. It is recognized as the wheat wireworm, a significant soil-dwelling pest that primarily attacks the roots and seeds of various agricultural crops, causing substantial economic loss.
Crops affected: This pest has a wide host range, posing a threat to corn, potatoes, small grains (wheat, barley), tobacco, and various vegetable crops. Because the larvae remain in the soil, they are difficult to detect until significant damage to the crop stands has already occurred.
