Description
Aknisus calvus is a species of plant bug belonging to the family Miridae, order Hemiptera. While the Miridae family is diverse and includes many predatory species, Aknisus calvus acts primarily as a phytophagous insect, potentially causing economic impact on various agricultural and wild plant species within its habitat range.
This pest targets young plant tissues, including leaves and stems, by piercing the epidermis and feeding on plant sap. Such activity disrupts the physiological functions of the plant, leading to stunted growth, discoloration, and increased vulnerability to secondary infections from fungi or bacteria that enter through the feeding punctures.
The life cycle of Aknisus calvus follows a hemimetabolous development process consisting of eggs, five nymphal instars, and adults.
