The Neides genus, commonly known as stilt bugs, belongs to the family Berytidae within the order Hemiptera. These insects are easily identified by their exceptionally thin, needle-like bodies and long, spindly legs that allow them to walk delicately over foliage. Their morphology is an evolutionary adaptation that helps them camouflage among grass and stems.
These pests primarily target various herbaceous plants. While many stilt bugs are not considered major economic threats in all regions, they can cause localized damage to cereal crops, legumes, and various garden vegetables. They prefer to feed on the sap of growing shoots, which can stunt plant growth if populations are dense.

They use their piercing-sucking mouthparts to extract plant fluids, leading to chlorosis, necrotic spots, and occasionally leaf curling. Persistent feeding at the seedling stage is particularly damaging, as it directly impacts the plant's ability to reach full development.
Management of stilt bug populations relies on integrated pest management (IPM) practices. Key strategies include maintaining clean field margins to reduce overwintering sites, practicing crop rotation to disrupt breeding cycles, and applying contact insecticides when scouting reveals populations exceeding the local economic threshold.
