Biology and life cycle. The life cycle begins when the female beetle oviposits on the surface of maturing bean pods. Upon hatching, the larva bores through the pod wall and into the developing seed. The entire larval development, including pupation, occurs inside the seed, providing a sheltered environment protected from many environmental stressors.

Damage and economic impact. The larvae consume the seed embryo and endosperm, rendering the seed non-viable. This damage reduces the overall germination rate and seed quality. In areas where Prosopis is valued for fuel, shade, or as a food source, the beetle's activity can lead to substantial reductions in seed availability.
