The rusty click beetle (Ampedus sanguineus) is an insect belonging to the order Coleoptera and the family Elateridae. This species is easily distinguished by its vivid red elytra, making it a prominent inhabitant within various woodland environments where it plays a specific ecological role.

The biology of Ampedus sanguineus is intrinsically linked to woody plants. The larvae, often referred to as wireworms, develop primarily within decomposing wood.
