Anaglyptus arabicus is a species of longhorn beetle (Cerambycidae) belonging to the order Coleoptera. As a wood-boring insect, it represents a significant concern for both forest ecosystems and orchards. Its classification within the tribe Clytini highlights its specific evolutionary adaptations that allow it to thrive inside woody plant tissues throughout its larval stage.

This pest primarily attacks various deciduous trees, with a strong preference for members of the Rosaceae family. The larvae are the main destructive stage, tunneling through the cambium and xylem layers. This feeding activity disrupts the tree's nutrient transport system, leading to canopy thinning, branch dieback, and in severe cases, the death of the host plant.

The biology of Anaglyptus arabicus follows a multi-year cycle often synchronized with the tree's health status. Adult beetles typically emerge in late spring or summer. After mating, females deposit eggs in the crevices of the bark. The larvae then bore into the wood, creating intricate galleries filled with frass, which serve as protection and food until the pupation phase occurs.

The damage caused by this beetle is often difficult to detect until significant internal structural decay has already occurred. Signs of infestation include small, round exit holes and the presence of fine wood powder around the base of the tree or on branches. Beyond the mechanical damage, the beetle creates entry points for fungal pathogens, which further weaken the tree structure.

Effective management requires an integrated pest management (IPM) approach. Regular inspections during the dormant season are crucial to identify and remove infested wood.
