Anaphes nipponicus

Anaphes nipponicus is a minute parasitic wasp belonging to the Mymaridae family within the order Hymenoptera. Often referred to as a fairyfly, this species is recognized as a vital natural enemy of several invasive stink bug species, most notably the brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys).

The insect acts as an egg parasitoid, meaning it targets the eggs of host pests. By depositing its own eggs inside the eggs of stink bugs, Anaphes nipponicus prevents the development of the harmful larvae. This prevents the primary damage caused by adult bugs and nymphs, which typically involves puncturing fruit and foliage, leading to necrosis and unmarketable produce.
