The Caragana longhorn beetle (Anoplistes halodendri) is a member of the Cerambycidae family, commonly known as longhorn beetles. It is a specialized wood-boring insect that affects various trees and shrubs, posing a potential threat to ornamental plantings and windbreak forest strips.
The primary hosts of this pest include species of Caragana (pea shrubs), Spiraea, and other deciduous species. While these plants are often used for ecological restoration, their susceptibility to Anoplistes halodendri can lead to significant economic and biological losses in specific geographic regions.
The life cycle of this beetle is complex and typically lasts one to two years depending on environmental factors. Females oviposit in bark crevices or existing wounds. Upon hatching, the larvae bore into the sapwood and heartwood, where they feed on the cambium and xylem.
