Anoploderma morretesi is a wood-boring beetle species belonging to the Vesperidae family. These insects are primarily known for their destructive impact on woody plants, as their larvae live within the timber, consuming the vascular tissues of the tree and compromising its structural integrity and physiological health.

The life cycle of Anoploderma morretesi is adapted to the woody host. After mating, adult females deposit eggs into bark crevices. Upon hatching, the larvae immediately bore into the wood, where they remain throughout their development. This internal lifestyle provides the larvae with significant protection from environmental factors and most traditional external pesticide treatments.
