Anoplophora nobilis is a species of beetle belonging to the Cerambycidae family. Recognized as a significant wood-boring pest, this insect poses a severe threat to broad-leaved trees globally. Because of its ability to kill healthy trees, it is heavily regulated under international phytosanitary protocols to prevent its spread into non-native forest regions.

The host range of this beetle is primarily comprised of hardwood tree species. Common targets include maple (Acer), poplar (Populus), and willow (Salix) trees. It frequently impacts urban landscapes, including city parks and street plantings, where it can cause extensive structural damage to high-value ornamental trees, eventually resulting in the total loss of the infested specimen.

The biology of Anoplophora nobilis involves a multi-stage life cycle. Adult beetles emerge during the warmer summer months to feed on twigs and leaves before mating. Females create oviposition pits in the bark to lay eggs. Upon hatching, larvae immediately bore into the inner bark and sapwood, where they spend most of their life cycle mining galleries that weaken the tree's internal vascular system.

Symptoms of infestation are often identified by the presence of round exit holes, roughly 10 millimeters in diameter, and the accumulation of wood frass (sawdust) at the base of the tree trunk. The structural integrity of the wood is compromised as larval galleries expand, which significantly reduces the tree's health and can lead to branch failure or windthrow during storm events.

Effective management requires early detection and aggressive containment strategies. Key practices for controlling the pest include:

• Mandatory quarantine measures for timber and firewood movement.
• Systematic surveys of host trees using trained detection dogs or aerial inspection.
• Removal and immediate destruction of infested trees via chipping or incineration.
• Application of systemic insecticides in high-risk areas to protect valuable trees.
• Promotion of biodiversity to limit the availability of host species in urban corridors.
