Aphelenchoides jonesi is a microscopic foliar nematode belonging to the order Tylenchida and the family Aphelenchoididae. As a specialized plant parasite, it primarily colonizes the aerial parts of plants, moving through water films on the leaf surface to invade tissues via stomata or epidermal wounds.
This pest is a significant threat to various ornamental plants and certain greenhouse crops. Because of its microscopic size, infestations often go undetected until significant damage has occurred, making it a challenging pest to manage in commercial nurseries and private gardens alike.
The life cycle of Aphelenchoides jonesi is highly dependent on humidity. Nematodes require external moisture to migrate between leaves and penetrate new plant tissue.
