In the context of global agriculture, it is classified as a significant pest that can cause substantial destruction to vegetable crops, nursery stock, and ornamental plants if introduced into favorable warm and humid environments, such as greenhouses or tropical plantations.

As an aggressive polyphagous feeder, this snail feeds on a wide range of botanical species. It is particularly damaging to young seedlings and leafy greens, including lettuce, cabbage, and spinach. Furthermore, it often attacks the succulent parts of vegetable crops, causing heavy tissue loss and reducing the commercial quality and marketability of the produce.

The biology of Archachatina degneri is centered on rapid reproduction. Being hermaphroditic, these snails can lay large batches of eggs in the soil. Under high humidity and moderate temperatures, the incubation period is relatively short, leading to rapid population surges. They are primarily nocturnal, seeking refuge in soil crevices or under moist vegetation during the daylight hours to avoid desiccation.
