The cherry fruitworm moth (Archips cerasivoranus) is a species of moth belonging to the family Tortricidae. Although it is primarily known for its impact on cherry trees and related rosaceous species, it can infest various other deciduous trees and shrubs, making it a notable pest in both fruit orchards and nursery environments.

Systematically, this insect is classified under the order Lepidoptera. The adult moth features ochre-yellow to brown forewings with darker markings, providing effective camouflage against bark. Understanding its lifecycle is essential for successful management, as the species typically undergoes one generation per year, overwintering in the egg stage.

During the spring, larvae hatch from egg masses laid on branches. These larvae are notorious for their social behavior, as they construct conspicuous silk nests by webbing leaves together. Within these protective structures, they feed gregariously, consuming the foliage and often leading to severe defoliation of the host plant if left unchecked.

The economic impact of Archips cerasivoranus is significant due to the loss of photosynthetic leaf area.
