The rose sawfly (lat. Arge enodis) is an insect species belonging to the order Hymenoptera and the family Argidae. It is recognized as a significant pest of ornamental roses, often causing substantial damage in both home gardens and large-scale nursery production environments.

The primary host plants for this species are members of the Rosa genus. While they primarily attack cultivated roses, they can occasionally be found on wild species. The larvae are particularly damaging due to their tendency to feed gregariously, which can lead to rapid defoliation of the host plant if left uncontrolled.

The biological cycle consists of complete metamorphosis. Adult females lay eggs in the soft tissues of rose stems using their ovipositors. After hatching, the larvae go through several instars. They are characterized by a distinct appearance and specific feeding habits, eventually dropping to the ground to pupate within a silken cocoon in the soil or leaf litter.

Young larvae often feed in groups, creating holes or skeletonizing the leaves, while older larvae consume the entire leaf blade, leaving only the primary veins. This damage not only ruins the aesthetic appearance of the plant but also significantly reduces the plant's overall vigor and blooming potential.
