The raspberry argid sawfly (Arge gracilicornis) is a member of the order Hymenoptera and the family Argidae. This insect is a significant specialist pest primarily affecting raspberry and blackberry bushes, causing aesthetic damage and physiological stress to the host plants during their peak growing season.

The primary hosts for this species are various cultivars of raspberries. The larvae are the stage responsible for the damage, as they consume leaf tissue with high intensity. Heavy infestations can lead to severe defoliation, which reduces the plant's ability to undergo photosynthesis and store reserves for the following season, ultimately leading to reduced berry yields.

The life cycle involves complete metamorphosis, consisting of eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults. Female sawflies insert their eggs into plant tissues. Upon hatching, the larvae, often referred to as false caterpillars, begin feeding gregariously or individually on the foliage.
