Argyrotaenia occulatana is a species of moth belonging to the family Tortricidae, order Lepidoptera. As a known orchard pest, this insect is recognized for its ability to cause significant damage to various fruit-bearing trees, primarily in temperate climate zones, affecting both the yield and the aesthetic quality of the fruit.

The host range of this pest is focused mainly on pome fruits such as apples, pears, and quinces, though it can occasionally affect stone fruits. The larvae are generalist feeders in their early stages but show clear preferences for fresh, soft tissues, making orchards highly vulnerable during the spring and summer growth cycles.

The life cycle typically includes four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The insect usually undergoes multiple generations per year, depending on local temperatures. Overwintering occurs primarily in the larval stage, protected within silken cocoons located in bark crevices or among plant debris at the base of the tree, allowing the population to emerge early in the growing season.

Damage is characterized by larvae feeding on leaves and young buds, often webbing them together with silk. These damaged areas not only ruin the fruit's appearance but also create entry points for secondary pathogens like fungi and bacteria, leading to rot.
