Ascaris lumbricoides, commonly known as the human roundworm, is not a plant pest and does not feed on crops. This parasite belongs to the order Ascaridida and family Ascarididae, specifically infecting the human gastrointestinal tract rather than agricultural plant tissues.
The biology of the organism relies on a transmission cycle where eggs are deposited in the soil via human waste. These eggs can remain viable for several years if environmental conditions, such as high soil moisture and moderate temperatures, are met, which is a critical concern for public health safety.
In agriculture, the primary risk associated with this object is the use of untreated human waste as fertilizer. When such materials are applied to the soil, they can introduce persistent parasitic eggs onto the surface of vegetables and berries, leading to severe sanitary issues for the harvest.
