While not as notorious as some larger slug species, it acts as a secondary pest in agricultural and horticultural environments, where it feeds on various tender plant tissues under conditions of high humidity.

This species primarily targets seedlings, ornamental plants, and vegetable crops such as lettuce and leafy greens. By residing in cool, damp microhabitats—often underneath mulch, debris, or dense vegetation—it maintains proximity to its food sources, making it a persistent nuisance in home gardens and nursery settings.

The life cycle of Ashfordia granulata is dictated by moisture availability and seasonal temperatures. Snails typically lay eggs in clusters within moist soil or organic matter. Following a relatively short incubation period, juveniles emerge and begin feeding immediately, growing steadily as long as the environmental conditions remain sufficiently humid.

Damage caused by this mollusk is characterized by irregular holes and scalloped leaf margins. Because the snails feed primarily at night or during overcast weather, growers may only notice the visible destruction of foliage and the presence of tell-tale mucus trails, which can significantly reduce the marketability and vigor of young plants.
