The Chestnut rove beetle (Bolitobius castaneus) is a member of the Staphylinidae family known for its potential to damage mushroom crops. While rove beetles are typically known as predators, this specific species is associated with fungal habitats and can cause significant economic losses in mushroom cultivation facilities.

Taxonomically, this beetle belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Staphylinidae. Its presence in agricultural settings, particularly in indoor mushroom production, requires close attention due to the damage caused by both adults and larvae feeding on fungal tissues.

The biological cycle of the pest involves complete metamorphosis, consisting of the egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Development is highly dependent on environmental humidity and temperature.
