It is a microscopic roundworm that mimics the behavior of other highly destructive Bursaphelenchus species known for causing wilting diseases in pine forests globally.
Host plants: This nematode primarily affects coniferous species, with a particular affinity for pines. Due to its physiological adaptation to the vascular systems of conifers, it poses a significant threat to timber resources and ecosystem stability in regions where susceptible host trees are present.
Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle of Bursaphelenchus singaporensis is highly dependent on cerambycid beetles of the genus Monochamus.
