Host plants and distribution: The primary hosts are coniferous species, particularly those within the Pinus genus. The pest is widely studied in forestry science, as its ability to hitchhike on longhorn beetles (Monochamus spp.) allows it to cross international borders through the trade of untreated wood products.

Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle is complex and dependent on insect vectors. Larvae of the nematode enter the beetle's tracheae during the insect's pupation stage. When the adult beetle feeds on the twigs of healthy trees, the nematodes emerge, enter the wood through feeding wounds, and begin a rapid reproductive cycle, feeding on resin canal cells.

Damage and severity: The feeding activity of these nematodes causes serious physiological dysfunction in the tree. By disrupting resin flow and damaging the vascular system, the infestation leads to rapid wilting, discoloration of needles, and systemic decline.
