Bursaphelenchus tusciae is a microscopic phytoparasitic nematode within the order Aphelenchida and the family Aphelenchoididae. It is recognized as a specific parasite of conifers, primarily associated with the pine species (Pinus) in Mediterranean-type ecosystems.

The primary hosts for this nematode include various species of pine trees. The nematode lives within the resin ducts and xylem of the wood, where it feeds on plant cells and associated fungi, causing localized physiological disruptions to the host tree's vascular system.

Its biological cycle is highly dependent on wood-boring insects, specifically longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae), which act as biological vectors. The nematodes undergo a life cycle transition where dispersal stages (dauer larvae) migrate to the beetle pupal chambers to hitchhike during the adult emergence phase.

The damage caused by Bursaphelenchus tusciae often manifests in trees that are already suffering from environmental stress or secondary pest attacks.
