Description

The Cream-streaked lady beetle (Calvia quindecimguttata) is a member of the Coccinellidae family within the order Coleoptera. Unlike many ladybug species that are strictly predacious, this species exhibits complex feeding habits, often including aphid consumption along with mycophagy, which allows it to thrive in diverse woody environments.

This species is predominantly found on deciduous trees such as linden, willow, alder, and various fruit-bearing species. It prefers dense canopy habitats, where it actively hunts for small sap-sucking insects that reside on the leaves and stems of trees, playing a dual role in the ecosystem.

Its biological cycle follows a standard pattern of complete metamorphosis. Females deposit batches of eggs on the underside of leaves to ensure larvae have immediate access to food upon hatching. The larvae are voracious predators in their early stages, passing through several molts before pupating on the leaf surface or within bark crevices.

While generally considered a beneficial predator in agricultural systems, the species can occasionally be classified as a pest when populations spike or food sources become scarce. In such instances, they may scrape the leaf surface, causing chlorotic spots or tissue damage, which can negatively affect the appearance of ornamental plants.
